Dr. Stephen Guertin, MD
Dr. Stephen Guertin, MD is the Medical Director of the Sparrow Children’s Center and Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Sparrow Hospital. Dr. Guertin is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. He is on the Board of Directors of the Sparrow Health System and is the physician member of Sparrow Hospital’s Child Abuse Evaluation Team. Dr. Guertin was also a founding member of the Hospital’s Child Safety Committee (which is the Child Abuse evaluation group). He sees between 100 and 200 children per year who have been referred from a five county area for suspected child abuse. He has worked with Prosecuting Attorneys and Police within the area in order to assure effective prosecution of those cases. Dr. Guertin is as invested in proving that children have not been abused as he is in supporting those who have been. In addition, Dr. Guertin has received the Child Abuse Prevention Services “Service to Children Award,” the AH Robbins and Wyeth Labs “Miracle Makers Award,” the “Community Service Award” from the Michigan State Medical Society and the Michigan Hospital Association “Physician Leadership Award.” He also holds the Michigan State Medical Society “Doctors and their Families Make a Difference in Michigan Award.” Dr. Guertin was Sparrow Hospital’s first recipient in 2007 of the “Physician of the Year” award.
